"Kalevala park" The municipal enterprise "Kalevala Park" was established in November 29, 1999 - in accordance with the plan of developing Protected Areas on the cross-border territory of the Republic of Karelia - with the technical assistance of EU - the Tacis project ENVRUS 9704 It is a nature conservation organization aimed at: assistance to research, elaboration of the management plan for the National Park "Kalevala", and development of nature tourism. Forest area reserved for the park is a valuable tourist resource not only for Karelia, but to the whole Russian Federation due to its convenient geographical location combined with unique forests (some trees are 300 years old) untouched by economical activities for more than 150 years. Development of the resource is the key objective of the enterprise "Kalevala Park". Western tourists are highly interested in visiting relict forests. In this respect one must note, that there are no forests comparable to Kalevala district in Europe. Demidov Sergey Stanislavovich is a Director of the enterprise "Kalevala Park". He is also a Tacis representative in Kostomuksha and Kalevala National district. On this post he provides links between the management of the Tacis project ENVRUS 9704 and indigenous people, entrepreneurs, local authorities and federal agencies of forestry and nature protection. |
