  In the ancient Kalevala area, in the modern beautiful town of miners Kostomuksha, on the highest and lightest point, Secondary school No.2 was opened in 1983. More than 800 pupils have left school since then, 24 out of them've got gold and silver medals, 16 school students were the prize-winners of the Republican Olympiads and contests,65% have received higher education or continue studying in the higher educational institutions, 500 have become highly qualified experts in different spheres of life.
  Our educational activity is aimed at keeping health and individuality of a child, at forming and developing highly educated, moral, socially adapted, creative, professionally orientated person. There are 1170 schoolchildren in 51 class, which study in 2 shifts. The teaching process is conducted with differentiation: from aiding classes till classes with high level of perception, in 7 educational fields and 3 stages: primary school (1-4 forms), the nursery included, basic school (5-9 forms), high school (10-11 forms). Such educational aspects as "Philology"(10-11 forms ) and "Arts" (5-6 forms) are considerably extended.
  In the primary school the project "School of Harmonious Development of a Child" is being realized, in the basic school classes with deep learning of foreign languages, literature, history, physics mathematics are being arranged and the subjects of ethnic-cultural (Russian) and regional components are being introduced. More than 60% of the pupils study ABC-s of internet in the computerized classrooms.
  In the 8-11 grades research work is organized, the students actively participate in contests, conferences, Olympiads, they conduct great searching work on the history of their family, the Republic of Karelia, Russia. In the school there's "Kalevala" museum, literary reception-room, musical theatre,15 clubs and sports sections. Yearly we perform a concert which is a big success. We can't but mention our mass media: the "Hello" computer wall paper/the "We" video-club, the school post.

  The teaching staff numbers 86 teachers, 11 out of them've got the highest qualification category, 31-the first one, 29-the second one, 13 teachers are awarded the title "Excellent Worker of People's Education". Creative groups of teachers have made up and now they're realizing 14 complex -purpose programmes, directing the development of the school collective, among them "Karelia", "Health", "Moral World of a Pupil", "Gifted School Student", "Historical Country-study", "School Museum"," Ecology","Aesthetic Centre" and others.

  In 1999 a new tradition appeared-collective activity "The First Love of Russia", the Pushkin Festival was held.
  On June,6,1999 the school won the Republican Competition "Pushkin School". Since August,28,1999 the school's been bearing the name of" A.S.Pushkin.

57 school teachers participate in the innovation process, 21 out of them refresh the contests of tuition, 48 use new pedagogical technologies, 28 take part in developing the system of upbringing the Child.
  The teaching staff actively partake in international and Russiart projects: National Programme "Russian School as a System of Educational Upbringing", "Enfolia"(Russia-Finland),"Youth in the Working Life"(Russia-Sweden)," The Union of Pushkin Schools" (The Republic of Karelia), The school's a member of the "Greenpeace" international organization.
  In 1991-1995 the school together with the Advanced Training Institute for Teachers and Moscow Scientific-research Laboratory under the leadership of the outstanding Russian teacher O.S.Gazman took part in the model-experimental work of introducing into the schools of the country a new job-a class mistresses. As a result a creative group of free class mistresses is working at school and the school project "Social-psychological Service" is being realized. The priority directions are pedagogical support of a child and the family, introduction of a personally orientated approach to a child social maintenance and monitoring of the educational process.
  OUR AIM IS DEVELOPMENT OF A GOOD, KIND SCHOOL WHERE THE TEACHERS HELP THE CHILD TO LIVE.
