The austere and beautiful Kalevala Region to which Kostomuksha belongs was populated from times immemorial. The local people lived by small khutors, separated farms of several to several tens farm-houses. Even now one can come across abandoned houseruins, brush-wooded meadows and fields in forests close to most beautiful lakes far away from roads. E.Lennrot, a famous runes collektor, travelling about the Kalevala Region in 1837 wrote the following about Kostomuksha in his diary "The village consisted of 10 farm-houses, many of which wellbuilt, some even rich. It took 4 days to put down runes, tales and proverbs". In 1866 27 farm-houses and 166 inhabitants were fixed in the sensus. They had horses, several boats and fishing tackles in their possession. Half of them bore the name Pekshuev. There were also the Vadaeevs, Rugoevs, Andreevs and Lezheevs. By 1917 the village had some 300 inhabitants of the karelian and Finnish nationalities. A school and church were functioning. But a tragedy of 1917 shook this far corner of the Russian Empire as well… During World War II Kostomuksha was completely burnt and in 1959 there were only 21 inhabitants in the kolkhoz. Long before the discovery of ore deposits in this region people knew about them. And in 1946 large groups of magnetic anomalies were mapped around the village Kostomuksha. In 1967 final conclusion about construction of the factory for concentration of ores in Kostomuksha was signed.

Valentina and Anatoliy Sviridov have received the first apartment in first the house in Kostomuksha - ¹8 along the street Soviet. The first turn of construction of city is designed on nine thousand inhabitants, the fifth part of all operations is now executed almost. At the end of August 52 apartments have received the Soviet workers and experts living up to it in a temporary settlement. Up to the end of year three houses, and the next year - eleven will be handed over. Who they, the first inhabitants? Here, in a settlement we also have got acquainted with Valentina. June 30 at us was wedding... As well as Anatoliy, his wife Valentina has arrived in Kostomuksha in 1976. In city Priozersk she has received a speciality of the adjuster of communication, in Kostomuksha she works at telephone station. Per day of wedding young have planted birches near school". Now Anatoliy and his wife Valentina work in management of power shops of combine, but live already in other apartment. The family for this time has increased, two children - Vasiliy and Olesia grow.
